Powering Ohio with Solar Energy
Ohio currently boasts 724 MW of operational solar energy generation, with an additional 7,208 MW approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board for construction or pre-construction phases. This capacity could provide electricity for nearly one million Ohio households. Solar project construction in Ohio typically takes between 9 to 15 months.
As of mid-2022, Ohio ranked 25th in the United States for solar power capacity, with approximately 107,207 Ohio homes benefiting from solar energy, constituting 0.0091 percent of the state's electricity generation. The solar industry has seen a remarkable 53 percent price drop from 2012 to 2022, with further cost reductions expected. Investing in more affordable solar power will lower electricity expenses, benefit our communities, and eliminate the need for resource extraction. Incorporating solar into our diverse energy mix reduces costs, minimizes air pollution, and promotes a "Made in America" approach to energy, creating and preserving local, well-paying jobs that cannot be outsourced.
